If it is a 3X Colt, it is an early one. They are actually 2.75X like the Armalite AR 180 scopes. I read somewhere that Haako in Japan made them, but don't take that to the bank, as I am not sure.Very early ones, I believe, had an inverted heavy post in the cross hair, then they switched to standard cross hairs. Later models were 4X.
I'll check in my book "Black Rifle: and see what I find.

I remember, roughly in order, Inverted post, non-inverted post, medium duplex, heavy duplex. (Plus my "custom" spider web festooned heavy duplex- which is mighty odd!) Plain cross hairs? Nope, but that doesn't mean a whole lot...

The early 3X Colt scopes well be marked "Colt made in USA" I have never read who made these USA scopes. The later scopes are just marked "Colt" and I have read in numerous places they are made by Hakko in Japan. Hakko made their own Brand name version of this scope called a "Blue Ring".

Funnliy enough, the screws retaining the scope to the bracket are metric even on my old "Colt /Made in USA" unit. Somehow, I question the "USA" part, but no real proof.

I believe the early Colt Scopes were made by Hako in Japan. That would explain metric screws.

I have two of the 3x20 duplex scopes, both have the word "Japan: on them with the letter "k" inside a small diamond. I guess the k-diamond is a tradmark of some company over there.
