Very nice piece. Takes me back to when our service rifles were something solid and powerful and I was young enough to carry it all day.

You are right there Jim. Don't see pure GOLD like that too often these days.

Wow - a thing of beauty
Is that Ian Skennerton's name on the box?

It is Ian's name on the Box, along with its previous owner who died about 20 years ago. Its sort of like looking at the old steamer trunks with their labels telling a story of where its been.
The polystyrene boxes are extremely rare, as they were destroyed after issue as it could not be repurpose, unlike the wooden transit chests that held 5 rifles, that could be.

Wow...how has this rifle grouping survived intact, given the laws of Aus and NZ?

This has been sleeping in an estate collection for the past 20 years, its lucky that it wasn't destroyed with the new firearm regulations, instead it was allowed to be auctioned off.

Shouldn't there be a charger-guide in that kit as well?

It didn't come with one, but it could of been separated over the years. I can add one, no problem. I would love to see an original list or photo of what should be in a box for a standard L1A1 rifle
