P14 mag box problems.
Hello all. I am new to the site an have a question regarding a ERA P-14 receiver. I can't find a magazine box to fit the receiver. I'm attaching picture of the receiver makings and of the mag well. There is a protrusion at the back of the mag well in front of the trigger/bolt? blocking hole. I think that is what it is. I've tried three different magazine boxes and none of them are cut for the protrusion. I know there are a lot of variations in the P-14. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off, are the mag boxes you are trying Stamped E? When it comes to P14's and interchanging parts its a bit hit and miss. Winchester marked ones (W) won't work. There are two variations of the E marked ones. Some have a 2 stamped on them and they fit the receivers stamped with a 2 on the top of the receiver above the serial number. Can you post some pictures of the mag boxes you've tried?

P-14 mGzine box pics.
Kiwi; thanks for your response. Attached are pics of the two mag boxes I could find. #1 is a riveted box and has no marking and is unaltered. #2 box appears to have the side plates slotted and welded? There are no makings and I did modify the back end of the box to fit the receiver. I have a number of 1917 parts but most don't fit the 14 except for the bolt stop and maybe sight parts that I haven't tried yet. The very first rifle I customized was a 1917 when I was 13 with my Dad's help of course. That was 66 years ago. I wish I still had it.

#1 is a Remington mag box (check the rear exterior surface of the mag box for an R) for a Model of 1917 (not a P14) , #2 appears to be Eddystone (the E marking would have been stamped on top of the rear section that has been cut/filled away by someone) but as it is straight sided its also for a Model of 1917 part not a P14 part.
For reference, in the picture I have attached of P14 mag boxes, from left to right the mag boxes are marked E, E2, R and W. Eddystone and Winchester marked their mag boxes on the top exterior of the rear wall. Remington marked theirs on the exterior face of the rear wall.

Found the third mag box
Here are pics of the third mag box. It is too wide to fit the receiver and the front of the box doesn't fit either. The #2 box in the previous post, once I modified it, fits the receiver perfectly.

The confusing thing is the markings are British but the mag boxes you have pictured will not fit my receiver. They are too wide. The box #2 in my previous post, once modified fits the receiver. The scallops for the mag box on my receiver measures 1.040 inches wide. The last mag box pics posted that is like your posted pics measures 1.095 inches wide. The post with the P-14 mag box has no markings at all and that's going over it with a magnifying glass. I am confused!

Perhaps you missed it my previous post, but your mag boxes 1 and 2 are NOT P14 mag boxes. Can you update you other post about the remaining 3rd mag (the pictures didn't attach)?
For curiosity's sake, as I have a spare Eddystone P14 receiver I just tried all the P14 mag boxes I have and and I can easily fit a E, E2 and R mag box in it. The W marked one does not fit.

P-14?
I'll try and reattached the pic of the P-14 mag box. By the way the 1917 mag box I modified fits the receiver I have perfectly. I've come to the conclusion I may have a 1917 receiver with British proofs. Why I have no idea. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The P14 mag box in post #8 is a Winchester made one. It won't fit an Eddystone receiver. I very much doubt you have a Model of 1917 with British acceptance markings/proofs on it. What is the serial number range fro you receiver? Again, I think you are trying to fit parts of different models and makers into the receiver, hence the trouble.

P-14?
The receiver serial number falls within the Eddystone 1917 range. The serial number is 4293XX indicating manufacture in 1918. I also read that some 1917's were shipped to England for the Home guard, etc. which would hold with the British markings if that is correct.
