early FN FAL cartridge 7mm Liviano
Back when different cartridges were being tested for NATO adoption, the engineers at FN in Belgium developed an interesting cartridge. They took the US 7,62x49mm FATE1 case and necked it down to use the 7mm Mauser S12 bullet. This cartridge was adopted by Venezuela and called the 7x49 Liviano and FN sold them 3000 new FN FAL rifles chambering this cartridge in 1954.
the 7x49 Liviano fired a 7mm bullet at 2750 fps and there was also a AP cartridge
There was also a 7mm/T65 cartridge which was the 7,62x51 necked down to 7mm and called the "compromise"
photos show the 7mm Liviano, 7,92 CEMTE and 280/30 and early US 7,62mm developement which started with the Savage 300 case in 1944Attachment 112696Attachment 112697Attachment 112698

Actually a pretty common round in the US. Not sure what happened to the rifles, but lots of surplus ammo arrived in the US...with nothing to shoot them!

7mm Liviano / 7mm-08?
.280-30 / .30 BR?
in a vaguely similar vein:
.276 Pederson / 6.8SPC?
