Type 99/38 Bayonet Interchangeability
I've noticed that the muzzle diameter on type 99's and type 38's are the same diameter. Is there a way to tell which bayonet goes on which type? Or is there a specific bayonet that goes on each type?

Both rifles used Type 30 bayonets regardless of the rifle or the bayonet variationn type. They were completely interchangeable and were issued based on what was on hand.
You could say that the "early" Type 30 is correct for the Type 38 rifle and, the "last ditch" Type 30 would be correct for the late war Type 99. I suppose.

Any bayonet can be used with either rifle but a lot of guys try to match the "stage" of the bayonet with the rifle. I paired a last ditch rifle with a last ditch bayonet for myself as suggested above but it isn't necessary.
