IHC rear sight question
I have two IHC Gap Letter garands and both of them have different elevation pinions. One has Brittish proofs and is 100% and looks like it has been fired very little. The wind. knob is marked IHC DRC the elevation is marked NHC. serial #4641516 barrel LMR 5-53. Next is #4642866 barrel LMR 7-53, old DCM gun. Windage is IHC DRC, elevation is WCE. Neither IHC appears to be messed with. Are the elevation knob markings correct for an IHC? I have another DCM IHC and the elevation is marked IHC and W in a hexigon. Any insight would be great. Any books on IHC garands on the horizon? Also, why does one of my gap letters have british proofs? I thought most of the rifles with british proofs would be WWII.

My Gap logo is very close to yours. 4641907 it also has a 5-53 barrel.
The windage is DRC IHC and elevation IHC with the W in hexagon. Are you sure it's marked NHC and not IHC ??
All the British proofs indicate is that the rifle passed through England at some point. There is a long story about the M1s purchased by Arms dealer Sam Cummings of Interarms in the late 50s. These rifles came through England and were British proof marked. They were sold in the U.S by Ye Old Hunter, Klines of Chicago, Winfiel Arms and others for $ 79.95 and $89.95 in near mint condition.

mparsons: two gap letters here as well, 4640369 and 4641536. Both sport 6-53 dated LMR barrels, NHC marked elevations knobs and DRC marked windage knobs. HTH

Joe I double checked and the elevation and it is NHC. Thanks for the England info. I did not realize that as they passed through they would get stamped. Thats what I love about garands always learning. buchkshot our gaps are only 20 #s off could have been in the same rack.

The 'W' in a hexagon with an arrow through it was the logo of the manufacturer Weatherhead.
