whats the worst 'babba mauser' you've ever seen

ok fellas take a minute and think what is the most painfull babba'ed mauser you have ever seen? mine would be a pristine BNZ that had numerious size holes drilled into the receiver that must have been drilled offcenter for scope mounts, a bolt handle that was welded on so that when you opened it had to be done with force as it rubbed the receiver, but the kicker was the bolt sleeve had a hole drilled into and a piece of finishing nail was jb welded in to hold an aftermarket safety, the re-crown i'm not even going there...price $ 175 firm! at a small town gunshop in PA

Well, it's not a Mauser, but since no-one else has made a contribution, how about this

    http://egun.de/market/item.php?id=2978349

P14s and M1917s (Mauser-derived action, so not quite OT!) with ground off backsight ears are not uncommon. Some brave souls have restored such rifles by remaking the ears. But in this case Bubba was not satisfied with that: no only did he grind off the ears, but welded the whole channel shut with a piece of curved metal (slice of pipe, maybe). Gruesome, gruesome, gruesome....

BTW, I don't know how it is in where you reside, but in Mauserland the regulations (and the proof houses) take a very dim view of welding operations on action parts.

I have a nice Winny '17 with a JA barrel that was well converted to a nice sporter. The barrel is near new and I would guess it would have been a real keeper before it was sporterized. Too late now, but I see cut-up '17's all the time at the shows. Most sell cheap and there are not many takers at cheap prices.

For me, it all depends on barrel condition and shooting performance. I bought a sporterized Enfield No. 8 for a price that you might find hard to believe. I purchased all the bits from EFD in Englandicon and now have the most accurate 100 meter rifle I ever had. But every P14 I have seen up to now has been either a wreck or sporterized beyond economic refurbishment or de-acted.

I met a BUBBA; yep i did > he would'nt admit it, but i know it was him by looking at a few rifles he had for sale in his makeshift workspace. Yes they still walk among us with there heads held high thinking of more 'milsurp improvements' that are on their workbenches thru out the world.

I seen a mauser that had a piece of all thread brazed to a ground off safety. it was about 4 inches long and was bent 90 degrees at the end. why? I asked. because the safety would not clear the bottom of the scope. Yea but what does it do to your face when that bent all thread recoils.....Uhm?

OK, definitely not a Mauser, but just to see if you are all tough enough to take this.
To those who don't know what I am referring to, I apologize. Those who do know may like to get out the Kleenex now!

This summer I saw a Lepage double-barrelled percussion shotgun. Rose damascus barrels. Maker's name inlaid in gold on the rib, lovely walnut shaft. Worth a solid 4-figures in good shooting condition.

The front sling swivel, soldered on the rib at the bottom, between the barrels, must have come unstuck.
So Bubba had ARC WELDED the swivel back onto the rib. The weld spot had penetrated both barrels. This ruins damascened steel, as the intense heat in a small area causes extreme temperature gradients with a resulting localized expansion that delaminates the damascened layers.
Looks awful, not longer safe to shoot - A wallhanger.

Ah well, at least I was able to exercise the smileys!
