03a3 parts
Hi Guys,
Need some help intentifying a few 03a3 parts.
1st. is a cast trigger guard, floor plate assy. without any
manufacturing stamps except the letter " O " stamped twice on the inside with one of them within a circle. Fit and finish seem to be o.k. with a blue/black finish. Also I have a front sight protector with only the letter "P" stamped within a circle on the side. Last a Remington bolt, parkerized in like new condition with the number "8" within a circle stamped on the top of the bolt handle at the root and the number "1" stamped on the cocking piece along with the usual "R"...My other Remington bolt doesn't
have the numbers...
Any help will be appreciated..Thanks in advance.
Regards
Richard

Could you post some pictures?
Trigger guards for M1903s weren't "cast" but milled (unless you managed to find a cheap foreign repro. If it has a trigger guard with separate floorplate, it is designed for a M1903.

Back in the 50's and 60's many people opted to sporterize military rifles. The stamped magazine box/tg assembly of the A3 was considered by many to be particularly ugly and was often changed to a milled '03 model. When milled GI units were scarce some of the mail order dealers offered their own commercial versions. The dealer i worked for had an aluminum 03 style guard with a deep blue black anodized finish thet retailed for less than $10. if I recall.
The circled "p" on the sight protector indicates manufacture by or on behalf of Springfield Arsenal.
I don't know exctly what the numbers on your Remington bolt stand for but we have seen the "8" before. I suspectg its some sort of inspection stamp.

Jim
