MK1 versus MK2 Forend questions
I recently read that the MK2 forend will fit on a MK1 but not the other way around. Was the MK2 forend allowed as a replacement part for both types of No4??

Horses mouth here............ It's correct that the Mk2 fore-end will fit onto a Mk1 and 1/1 rifle but you MUST fit the SCREW, tie fore-end and nut. But a better idea would be to insert and glue into place a block of wood to space out the gap in the rear left by the absence of the BLOCK, trigger on the Mk1 and 1/1 rifle.
As for whether it was ever an authorised/sanctioned replacement on the No4, then the answer is a definate NO.
However, it WAS sanctioned for use on the DP L59A1 rifle under a relaxation authority in the last EMER issue relating to the No4
