I think you will find that it is correct. At that serial number it doesn't have the XX screw either.

Yes, thankyou Bill, Bob Eakins has several before, and after. My point is the SN is earlier than Reisch, and WB show,

An example of error in the "Books"? Maybe, But what do the numbers in the books really mean? How can they show "mixed use"? The charts would be three times as large and still not have all the information. From what to what. Earliest found, Mostly used after, none after this number, etc.
Bottom line do not change out a part based on one or two sources, And then there are exceptions. I know I have changed out parts from original carbines early on just the match some book. And later I found the parts were transfered. Everybody knows Underweood parts do not belong on a Winchester, Right.

I know of two Winchesters 5.6 that came with Underwood recoil plates (the only non Win parts on them). I own one of them.
I would also recommend examining the wood under the plate. The recoil plates have a fingerprint or signature that is usually unique. If the wood matches the plate, you usually have an original part. Mine was extraordinarily hard to remove also a sign that it had been in place for decades.

Then what is the issue? It sounded like you were questioning the correctness of your recoil plate.
