Reisings

I do not see a select fire topic section so I am posting to the M1 carbine forum where I know a few people. Is anyone familiar with the Reising Model 50's and if so does anyone know much about the company http://www.autoweapons.com? They seem to have some nice select fire Reisings, thanks

The Reising M 50 was a fine submachine gun though almost 7 pounds. The folding stock M 55 was a bit lighter at a tad over 6 pounds. Marines and paratroopers liked it. Was pretty accurate being fired from a closed bolt. One problem was it didn't like to get dirty. American Rifleman did a piece on it a while back. Should show up in reruns.

The only thing I don't like about them is the heavy trigger pull. Accurate in semi-auto anf reasonably controllable in full. (Model 50s, anyway.) Mendoza has had some good ones lately, IIRC.

GS45 , Wasn't Pauls M50 over on MGB one ? I answered you over there and I assumed his was one of these.
Jmoore , I agree the triggers are not target grade , kinda "squishy" , but these are not target grade rifles. I put the earlier Wolff spring kit in my guns , and the little springs and the hammer spring made for a very tough trigger pull. I replaced them with new USGI and solved that. I ended up only using the action spring ( under the barrel ) out of those kits. Ken has new Wolff made springs done at his specs that I hear are better than these older kits . You might compare and see if this is part of your problem.

Yeah, but it looks like that was 6 years ago. I doubt I would spend that much anyway. Might be nicer to have one with some use and some history if possible.

The semi-auto version are pretty reliable and allso today very pricey! I would not buy one for a plinker! As said there good like to be cleaned &oiled. Highly collectible!!

I had a semi M60 years ago. Sadly a family emergency forced a sale. Good plinker , though. I remember it would put 12 rds of Winchester 230gr white box into one ragged hole at 50 yds. I have found the shorter M50 and 55's don't do as well by far.

I've read that the Reising was hated on Guadalcanal by the Marines because of its lack of reliability. Canfield says in his book on WW2 Infantry weapons that lots of Marines simply threw them away in streams and lakes. An old Guadalcanal vet who worked in my office confirmed this.
