M-1 white stripe question
I acquired this Vietnam era (or post?) for pretty cheap. I am curious about the white stripes on the helmet. My guess is that it is training helmet. Any ideas? Thanks

Those usually had a name on the white stripe. Could be observed at distance. When you're in full gear and there's about one hundred recruits, they get blurred.

I think you are right about it's having been worn in a training environment, perhaps as a range safety officer or NCO, or maybe a controller for a field exercise. At first glance, I thought is was the marking we had on our jump helmets at Airborne School at Ft. Benning, but that is not it.

The jump schools used a number marked on the helmet if I remember correctly. The range staff makes sence.

It's a Vietnam era helmet as far as I can see. If it were mine, I'd just buy a Mitchell cover for it and it would display nicely. By far the majority of Vietnam era helmets were worn with Mitchell covers in service.

When I was in BCT we had tape on our helmet with our name on it.
