1941 johnson
Hi all,
First: I know nothing about these rifles. and if this is not the correct place for this thread,
just say so. Thanks
I just read this ad and wondered if the more knowledgeable would think this is a fake.
This is a rare Johnson Automatics Model 1941 Rifle in .30-06 that is still in its military configuration. One of his articles was a general critique of the new M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle. Johnson took issue in his article with the M1s "gas trap" design and its en block clip loading design, as well as several other issues with the rifle. The Barrel Bushing has the correct ".30-'06" and "41" markings stamped on the face. Near the breech it has the "O [Gladius Sword] I" in a circle stamp found on all early Johnson 1941 Barrels. It is also correctly marked "J.A./30-06." The Locking Bushing or breech ring lug is marked with the part number “9509H,” which matches the barrel part number “9509H.” These are not serial numbers as Johnson Model 1941 Rifles were issued with any parts that matched the assigned serial number. The rear face of the locking bushing has a serif “X” and “N” stamp and the breech face is very clean.

Johnsons were very unique, it would be pretty hard to fake one. Got pix?

I don't have a pic just now but reading that ad, does it have information that you would need to know to tell you if it was a rifle to look into?

You need pics to tell if it's been altered or repaired at all. The lower stock sustained damage along the sides behind the mag and would often be scabbed off. The front would be damaged at the open fork and sometimes shortened. Sight ears would be cut off or bayonet lug removed...pics required.

Some Johnson rifles were faked by removing the letter in front of the serial number, some also had number (s) removed from the serial number to appear early.
I have nor seen that many four digit Johnsons but all had the serial number hand-stamped
Serial number R13 (R - rotary magazine) was in Arizonia a few years ago

Hi to all,
I have done quite a bit of research on this particular gun and ad and have come to the conclusion that this one is a scam.
I found the Identical ad and description for the same gun on two different sites and the description from a technical article.
Thanks to all that wanted to help.
There will be another at some point.

"...a general critique of the new M1..." Nothing unusual about that. Johnson and his cronies were still trying to get the 1941 adopted long after the M1 Rifle was in full production. The gas trap was discontinued before that happened too.
"...think this is a fake..." A fake what?
"...reading that ad..." What ad? Isn't exactly unusual for a seller to put ads in several places.

fake?
I just found it a bit odd that there were three ads, same content:, disimilar presentation from three states, three different owners and three different prices but same gun.
Maybe scam instead of fake would have been a better choice of words.

It probably is a scam with that kind of information...
