A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. There were 2 prototypes one was the T-44 and the other was the T-47 I believe also one had a m-14 type action and the other a BAR type action.

Manufactured by Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. - Lightweight, gas-operated, magazine fed shoulder weapon, designed primarily for semi-auto fire. Select switch. Improved bolt catch and magazine. Adopted as M14 icon

in May, 1957. Weapon complete with 20-round detachable box magazine.

Markings:
Receiver: RIFLE/CAL.30 T44E4/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY 1541.
Bolt: 7267003-SA/A15.
Barrel: P. 3-55.
Stock: P in circle.

Weapon transferred to the Museum on 2 August 1963. At that time weapon was appraised at $180.63.
