Looks like a staged picture. Why would you have the bolt closed on your BAR?

Does it fire from the open bolt position like the modern M249 and M240B? I assumed it fired from the closed position myself, but then again I've never fired or even held one.

The "new" BARs that fire semi-auto fire from a closed bolt, because of ATF regs. The originals fired from an open bolt.

So you're saying it WOULD be the roadblock to approach? What's the pistol the right hand man's carrying then?

    Jim:

I don't understand your question. I merely stated, in my belief, the BAR would be ready to fire in an actual combat situation. I haven't looked at the sidearm.

From the looks of what can be seen of the holster, I guessing the pistol is something 'captured' about the size of a Tokarev. On another note, It is interesting to see the 'pocket' sewn onto the legging to hold the knife sheath on the BAR gunners' right leg.

Is there a sword sticking in the bag between the two right gunners? Looks like but who knows?

I don't know why I just thought of those books I used to get for my grand-daughter, "I Spy With My Little Eye".
But he is right, looks like a sword.
