Many military 98s were sporterised in Europe in the post WW2 era. The claw mounts on yours are pretty much indicative of work done there as opposed to in the US. These can be very good sporting rifles, but do not have a lot of collector value. Getting the claws/rings for these can be difficult and expensive as many different configurations were used and some of the rings were partial circles soldered to the scope body.

Looks like a post-WWII sporter. You really need to find the scope that was on it. Perhaps a family member got it. Without that scope and rings you don't have much.

Yea no clue where the scope is, I have had the rifles since 2011. When my grandfather was still alive he kept them in the same bedroom closet since he moved into that house in the early 60s. In my life time(I'm 29), I never saw it with a scope. We finally cleaned up the house a few months ago and never found a matching scope.
