I can only give the general time frame of March or April of 44. It could be just a little earlier or maybe just a little later than that. Sorry not to be very exact, but that's how it goes with carbine dating sometimes. I am sure someone can give a more exact time frame.

How about the date on Winchester 1,300,716? This one was found at a garage sale by a friend about 30 years back.

1,300,716..............Nov. 12, 1943. End of day Nov. 11 serial number 1,299,850 to end of day Nov. 12 serial number 1,302,040. That's 2190 receivers stamped that day! Keep in mind that's the day the serial number was applied, not necessarily the day the carbine was built.

I believe Winchester stopped dating barrels in early 1943 if what I read is correct.

If I am understanding the information in CC newsletters correctly. Dated barrels: serial number 1,009,--- to 1,047,--- about the third week of March 1943.

There is no barrel date on the Winchester shown. Only the W and Oval/WP.

Thanks again for the great information.
