Please help me id this 1861 US sword bayonet
Please help me identify this old bayonet. It's come down through my family, but with no history of it. I have searched for info such as a maker with no luck. I'm sure it was shortened at some point with this scabbard being made for it. The only markings on it are 1861 on the blade and a serial number on the flat of the hilt. The sheetmetal scabbard is very well made, there is no open seam running down it just a color difference (brazed?). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance. It's ironic this is the bayonet that started my collecting and it's the one I know least about.
