Differences between original and reproduction Enfield Web Rifle Cases
Note posts regarding use of pocket on side but with reproductions now readily available, what are the real differences in construction in order to differentiate reproduction from the original? I do not know if either of these is original or a good reproduction. I have two with pictures. One has verdigris on the brass parts but other looks like shellac. One has the strange "SMLE" and date labeling, the other none. The flap on the one is shorter than the other. Both of these came with what looks like original slings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I don't know about how original yours are, mine is an original example (1942 dated I think) and is quite different, the pocket is in-line and there is no provision for a sling/carry handle attachment. Perhaps mine is just a different pattern?

IMA sells this sort of thing currently. The verdigris on the brass can be reproduced with chemicals...the 1942 written on the flap...well...mine also have the pocket in line and no provision for sling. Never seen that on an original, starting 30 years ago when they were far more common... But, it DOES state for SMLE...

It looks like one of the new reproductions being made in Pakistan or India. I've seen originals with a Sten sling sew on but it was an "in-service" modification to an original case.

Hi
Both look like recent reproductions to me, picture shows some of my originals. Centre one has had pocket removed and sling stitched to it. None have metal attachments to the rear for fitting a sling

If it looks too good to be true, then it generally IS......

I'd say they are both reproductions. The originals don't have a carrying sling, and if you see one with a sling it's been added after they were sold off. Many have been so altered, to make them more marketable. At one time this was the only cheap gunslip you could get and they were endlessly modified.

I have got a couple, all have the pocket removed, these came from Henry Kranks back in the 80s when they were only a couple of quid each
