Mine is dated 1966, what year did production start on these canteens ?

This canteen is not water proof though which I was a little disappointed about. I been trying to find a way to leak proof it it.

There's no gasket in the plastic ones. If it developed a leak, it was because of some damage and that would cause rejection. You could cut a rubber wafer and put it in the cap to stop the water leaking though...we just exchanged them...

Rubber gasket worked fine on my 1968.

Ours had a rubber O ring in the cap to stop leaks, water (especially when warm) still tasted like crap in those damn things.

Strange that, the Aussies canteen's were made by them, that I saw in '77 in Australia (darker green), but the others should be the same as I used. Never saw a rubber O ring. They had a lip inside to settle into the mouth of the canteen...
