    SMLE No1 MkIII* Stampings

I was looking at my 1916 BSA SMLE with my magnifying loupe and I saw what at first I thought was just a rough machining mark. Upon closer (very much closer) examination I discovered that it was not a machining mark but another series of stampings. They are very small, only about .060-.080 (1.5-2mm) in height The first picture with the arrow shows where I found it (I didn't know how to accurately describe where it is) and the second picture is the stamping itself. Sorry for the grainy picture but I couldn't find my tripod or a decent lighting source and I was using a stack of close-up lenses on my macro. The stampings appear to be a crown over a "B" over a lazy "S". The stamping is applied horizontally just above the wood line. Has any one seen these before?? I know you're all going to grab your rifles now and see if you've got them too--LOL. Any and all information appreciated. This rifle gets more interesting every time I look at it.

    Thanks to all in advance.
    Jon
