LMT Defender 2000
What can anyone tell me about the LMT Defender 2000 (Police Mil-Spec 16" 30rnd 5.56mm)? A friend asked me about this and I don't have any information to share with him. TIA.

LMT = Lewis Machine and Tool
they have sold mostly LOWERs over the years, but do have some fully assembled rifles. They are ISO9000 etc. and I suspect they are no better and no worse than any of the other name brand manufacturers.
the info you provided "Police Mil-Spec 16" 30rnd 5.56mm" doesn't mean anything much more than it's an AR15 with a 16" inch barrel and chambered with some type of 5.56 reamer.
I have never heard anything negative (or positive) either way about LMT, so it's normally a matter of cost vs. features vs availabilty vs. condition.
I would want to see a receipt from someone that indicates the rifle left LMT as a complete gun (vs. some lower that someoene else put-together). If it's a put-together, you might want someone knowlegeable to check it out first (or load up as many types of ammo as you can find randomly into a mag and see if it feeds and functions everything OK).

LMT makes makes some of the best rifles on the market, on par with Colt. They high pressure test and magniflux both the bolts and barrels, Use the proper barrel steel, chrome lined chamber and bore along with %.%6 NATO chamber, stake the gas key and buffer tube castle nut, etc etc. They only part they differ from the M4 technical data package is they use straight pins instead of taper pins to hold the front sight on and they parkerize the barrel and front sight base together instead of separate parts. Known complete rifles are good to go.
It is pretty common for people to buy LMT lowers and uppers separately then assemble the full rifle because you can save about $150 by doing so. If that is case the bolt carrier group might be suspect If they didn't buy a quality carrier to put into it.
It is a true hard use carbine that only a few companies on the market compare to.
