Any book that makes you uncomfortable ?

Did certain parts of any book make you uncomfortable? If so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding or awareness of some aspect of your life you might not have thought about before?
    Thanks.

I was uncomfortable reading Mein Kampf and Dos Kapital. It left me trying to find the truth. I found it in The "Constitution of the United Statesicon". Which now is under full assault. Gary

When I was a student, I read 'A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich' sitting on a park bench one day. Cover to cover, hard boards on my arse, and a half empty stomach. The privations of the Sovieticon Gulag were worse than my temporary discomfort, but I'll never forget the experience.

The last book that I just had to put down was titled something like "In Search of Paul". The author insisted on using the B.C.E. and C.E. dating system which amongst other things were very annoying in a book supposedly centered on a Biblical subject. Stirred up some almost violent emotions, which is odd considering I've read quite a wide range of literature (science fiction/fantasy to Plato) w/o any particular anger.

Errrrr. Gettin' mad all over again! Those terms ought to refer to the "scholars", i.e.:

    BCE- Big Coward's Escape
    CE- Cretin's Excuse

This Rant's going to take a while to cool off! %$^# (%(*%9)v *(%^*(

This thread reminds me, maybe 15yrs ago I read a 1980's retelling of the last US battle for the Heurtgen Forest with a corny title like, March into Death. Chilling. Fatalistic. Relentless. Brutish. And at the same time personalized with the story of the long service Guardsmen whose small town units were ground up and frozen to death.

    2 that I read recently

Guadalcanal Diary was shall we say... gritty!

And Given Up For Dead about Wake Island was no picnic, those boys went thru Hell

Also, Ghost Soldiers about the Phillipine POW Rescue was disturbing.

I dislike books that purport to be historical but actual are biased towards a particular point of view. Usually they are biased against a truley democratic or conservative system and are very anti the army, navy etc.
So I can't spell, so what!!!
