    1917 SMLE 1907 pattern bayonet

    Hi,

I've just picked up a nice condition 1907 Sanderson SMLE bayonet. There's a couple of bits I'd like to change and get some help on please...

The wooden handle has been replaced and the wrong bolts/nuts have also been used. Is there a good source for these anywhere in the UKicon?

The scabbard that it came with, looks correct, but has been painted green and also doesn't have the 'frog' nipple (excuse the word!) on it at all. Instead it has some heavy duty brass wire around the top, almost as if it is a belt hook or something.

I'll try and take some pictures, but any help would be much appreciated.

olliecampbell, Can't help you in the UKicon with grips, but they do turn up on 'on-line' auctions here in the U.S. Your scabbard sounds like a US model 1917 one, or a Danishicon modified Patt. '07.

Here you go; a full set of grips, bolts and nuts for less than a tenner including postage:

DS-Solutions '07 Bayonet, Original Replacement Grips & Screws.

Oh, and they're a great company to deal with as well.

Have a look on my site under USAicon or on the 1907 dedicated page, as Tom says the scabbard sounds like an original US pattern for the 1917.

    Hello,

Wow, thanks for the great responses guys.

It does look like I have an UKicon Model 1917 scabbard with my 1907. Guess I should see who would like a swap!

Thanks for recommending that site, off to have a look now.

old-smithy, very nice site by the way.

Thought I would post up a few photos:

The current grips don't look right, ignore the screw lengths I put them back in the wrong way round.
I ordered a set of bayonet grips from DS Solutions, everything went perfectly as always. But...they don't fit properly and the nuts don't fit the bayonet tool that I have either. That's another story and something I'll take up with them.

Does everything else look ok? Anything else you notice?
