L1A1 adjustable sight quest
I have a British L1A1.
Does anyone sell an adjustable sight to replace the standard
sliding "L" sight assembly ?
Thank you in advance.

You could advertise in the WTB for a Canadian folding disc sight. It could be pricey but they don't slide when used. It rotates for different ranges and folds flat when not in use.

I haven't had to deal on them for years, they were $100 CDN at that time.

Does anyone know why the Canadians went over to the fixed/folding disc type sight? I know that there was some talk about them doing the rounds in the 70's or 80's but nothing materialised

According to what I've been told by the men that were there,(they may be opinionated to some degree) the original design snagged on branches during trials so they went to a rearward folding sight with a rotating disc.

Yuck on the picatinny add on bunk !. Make it a SUIT or nothing !. I just could not do that to my L1A1 .
On the rear sights I drilled out the garbage can sized hole and press fit in a smaller peep. I may have to do it again as the peep still is not small enough for me to get fair accuracy out of the rifle. The Iron sights on my metric FAL are excellent and I can do great with them..but the inch pattern sight picture leaves alot to be desired.

L1A1 iron sight improvement
I bought a Hythe sight from John Chapman at DS Solutions (DS Solutions Militaria | Small Arms Parts & Accessories). It's a 2 leaf flip up sight arrangement, similar to the standard sight, but has smaller day and much larger night apertures. It has the advantage of being an issued British Army sight so looks right on the L1A1 and I believe it was used by the Army in competitions, so should be acceptable if you were shooting in SRa class comps.

And It does actually work. I fitted a Hythe to mine a while back but didn't use it as I had scoped my SLR, but took the scope off the last time I used it and shot it with irons.
Another mod that worked for me was obtaining a spare foresight blade, and grinding it down carefully on my bench grinder to approximately half its original thickness (which completely obliterated the black on a 600 yard target), and now it is much better to get a precise target fix at longer ranges

I reckon a Parker Hale 6 hole adjustable eyepiece would fit the bill nicely.

I have one on my Enfield No 4 Mk II with A J Parker Twin Zero 4/47 aperture sight, and it works perfectly
