98k Buttplate question.....
I have always been under the impression that all 98k buttplates were originally issued in the white. Is this correct? Are blued buttplates the result of the Russians or Yugos having blued them in the rework process? Thanks.

Flat butt plates were never blued.
Cupped butt plates were not blued till late 44. I have read somewhere that some factories began bluing/phosfating them in that time frame. Not at all sure this is correkt.
No butt plate with a ser nr, date and/or mfgr code should be blued!
Safest to presume that any cupped butt plate that is blued is a post war rework.
