USAF Colt Combat Commander
Many years ago, I acquired a Colt Commander in 38 Super. It has no other [strange] markings, just the ones we normally see on a Colt.
A friend looked this up in a Colt book, and it says this was a USAF pilots flight vest/survival gun from around 1955.
Anybody know about such a thing I can find no other reference about this.
Would love to learn about the history of this etc.

I believe that during the time mentioned they were using .38 Special revolvers in the survival vests. A letter from Colt would tell where it was shipped, but I would find out what reference your friend used before spending $100 on a Colt letter.

Air Force Commander.
I can state that we carried USAF marked .38s in our survivor vests in the late 60s...Used by Air Sea rescue.
