It was originally conceived as an anti-tank gun round, but when this concept became obsolete it continued development as an aircraft machine gun.
It never went anywhere and was dead by about 1949. These rounds are fairly common in collector circles.

That is cool. My Dad worked at the Frankford Arsenal till it closed. I used to play on the tank in the compound when my Mom would take me to pick him up from work. Yea I'm from Philly but moved out west.They call me PhillyPhil out here!!!!
