The Generals
The Generals:
The Canadien Army's Senior Commanders in The Second World War.
J.L.Granatstein
ISBN 0 7737 2730 2
This book is just what it say's it is! Starting with the PF, Permanent Force, the author reviews the generals who lead the Canadian army in WW2, warts and all! I was given this book and am just up to General Guy Simmonds. Belive me the infighting between this group was every bit as underhanded and vicious as any in the Normandy Bocage or on the Hitler line in Italty!
It comes with extensive footnotes and photographs. And I am enjoying it very much!
Two other books on similiar lines are The following!
Churchills Generals
John Keegan, Editor.
ISBN 0 304 36712 5
Commander In Chief
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, His Lieutenants & Their War
By Eric larrabee
ISBN 0 06 039050 6
These two books, together with the one on the Canadian Generals cover most of the senior Officers in the Allied Army. The book on Roosevelt also inculde's various Airmen, and Naval officers.
Churchills Generals, consists of a series of essays on the various Generla Officers who made up the army and dealt with Churchill or where broken by him, in some cases, quite ruthlessly! It is a interesting glimpse in the world of high politics and the proscecution of the war.
Commander in Cheif is quirte different in that only one of the Generals mentioned was removed and, in any case he, Stiwill, was remployed by General Marshall on Okinawa, amongst other positions. If you wish to understand the relationship between The President of the United States and his Generals, this is a good book to read. As a book on WW2, this is and important read.
I have yet to find a book on Russian Generals!

So I can't spell, so what!!!
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who beat their swords into ploughshares, will plough for those who don't!
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
