New member with concerns about George ...
Hi, concerned about all the negative remarks that I have read about George because I recently ordered a Rock-Ola recoil plate from him. Is he selling repo. carbine recoil plates? Also I ordered and received a complete type five Winchester trigger housing. According to Riesh's 6th edition it appears to have all the correct parts for a Winchester carbine in the 5.7 mil. range. I did notice a small number 59 mark in front of the trigger guard and push saftey. Called him and he said Winchester did mark their trigger housings in that manner. Owned for some time several carbines, m1's and 1911a1's. First time ordering parts and hope I haven't made a mistake. Great forum, perhaps I should have read more of the posts before deciding on a parts source.

Welcome,
With all the recoil plates out there, there'd be no need to 'make one'. It is possible that he'd stamp rockola on it though.
A picture of the plate would be all we'd need.
Your trigger housing,
WRA are commonly found with a number or letter on the forward side of the trigger loop.
With the housing stripped, or just the hammer and sear removed, look inside at the bottom hole where your trigger arm engages the safety. Only WRA had a oblong (bulged) shaped hole, not a oval.
Most were marked with a small W on the left rear side, but not all. Many of these housings will show a cresant shaped stamp near there also.
Here's a link to a auction for a WRA type III housing.
See picture #2 for W stamp.
Picture # 4 for number stamped.
Picture # 5 for the Oblong Ovaled hole.
Picture # 3 shows the added oil lube/drain hole, not original to a Type III housing.

Here's a different trigger housing you can see the difference in the shape of the hole. All other makers except WRA have this shape...

My concerns would be if you received a real WRA hammer and safety.

I recommend getting Carbine parts from Nick Daley (folcmote). He sells repro parts and real parts. Yes, Nick clearly tells you the repros are repros, and they are priced accordingly. His real parts are very reasonable, too. I just got a sweet USGI slightly used, unmarked type 3 push safety that is a perfect match for my Inland. He had repro ones for $15, but for a little more than double that I got a real one from him.

Bill Ricca and Eddie (goes by 81MM on GunBroker) are stand-up guys as well, if they tell you it's a real part, it is.

I'll second both, as I have bought from both. Eddy and I are old 81mm mortarmen (11C).

Then we all share a common experience. My time in mortars was in the 173rd and later, the 101st Airborne. Think they're a bitch to carry, try jumping with one.

I was 60mm AG at JOTC. That was hell humping that baseplate through the jungle. It got hung on every vine in Panama!

Thanks to all for the information. Had a friend look at the trigger housing and recoil plate and we think the real deal. This may seem strange but I rather remain in ignorant bless than to find out that I have been F by George. I have read enough about George to seriously question his honesty.

There's no question to it, when it comes to George.
The Odds will be against you.

Funny you should say that. My third jump in Jump School (June 1964) was an equipment jump, as usual. Naturally the smallest guy in the stick got the 81mm Mortar Base Plate and that was me.
It worried the heck out of me, but the jump turn out to be perfect. Something I will never forget.
