IDing AR barrel.
Got an upper in a trade the other day, no idea of the make. The barrel is the puzzler, though. It is an A2 type heavy barrel, and is completely devoid of any markings. Looked it over again tonight, and found one 'M' under the gas tube. Any ideas??

Unfortunately there is no sure way of determining the manufacturer of such a barrel.

Any markings on the front sight base?

The first AR15, the Colt - ArmaLite 601 had an "M" stamped on the barrel. The barrels were made by Winchester IIRC.

why don't you check the twist ? could be 1x14, 1x12, 1x9 or 1x7. by checking the twist you might have an idea of the time period
