Seems M1 Carbine prices have dipped a bit.
I have noticed from both working at the gun shop and selling stuff on Gun Broker that Carbine prices are down. Recently I have seen mix-masters for $1000 to $1100 again. Last year, the cheapest were around $1300 and up.
Surprisingly, retail prices for M1 Carbines in Commiefornia are also down. MIni-14s get a higher price here than even clean carbines in northern Commiefornia. That may partially be that M1 Carbine ammo has been largely unavailable to dealers in Cali since the pandemic, and Cali residents can't order ammo online because of the Draconian efforts of our totalitarian overlords.

Ammo has been an issue at most places LAX ammo seems to be the only place with a good stock and while it is not great ammo, it gets the job done. I've been seeing a number of M1 Carbines floating around but is San Diego, they are still going for $1200.00. Since I work at the range once a month, I have seen a number of the Auto Ordinance M1 Carbine's (reproductions) .. found out Turners is selling these locally for $1100.00.
Tahnkfully I have a Type 3 FFL and COE so I am still able to buy ammo on-line, from those who will ship it to this commie state.

Grab or modify a M1 carbine in 9mm and shoot off the shelf 9mm Luger for 25-cents a round. Just as much fun and much less expensive. Ammo is everywhere.
I simply refuse to pay $1 a round for carbine ammo.

Not sure I'd modify an M1Carbine that would dump it value in the trash, especially when I could buy the Henry Homesteader 9mm I've been eyeballing...

Not much to it really and no valuable USGI parts are damaged in the process. Screw on a $135 conversion USGI barrel, open a bolt face to accept the 9mm rim, modify the piston and nut….that’s it. It can be converted right back to a 30-carbine in minutes.

Too, there must be some carbines around that AREN'T collector value, just shooters or build from a high number receiver... Personally though, I'd probably buy one of the pre made 9mm guns. They would be fun except here they're so restricted and on the edge of outlawed they aren't worth the consideration.

I have other pistol caliber carbines and like them all. The converted M1 carbine brings along with it gas operation just like big brother. Don’t have the extra weight of the mass required to safely shoot 9mm in blow-back. All the components are USGI. Nothing added nothing deleted. Yes….commercial carbines could be converted the same way.

That is a very interesting point reference the non-USGI carbines and how they have been holding their value. They seem to be almost on par with the USGI mix master rifles. I've been pricing them for friends who want an M1 but can't afford the USGI version and they are almost the same price, maybe a 100-150 less.

Yeah, it blows my mind that folks are paying $1100.00 for a reproduction when you can get a Military Surplus for the same or just a bit more. I will have to say though the folks that had the reproductions were in their late 20' - early 30's, definitely not collectors.
Dont get me wrong those reproductions look well done, why better than the repos that came out in the 70's

I had a AR in 9mm and a Beretta Storm as well as a Roni micro for my Glock 22 in .40 cal. I enjoyed all of them, they would all have a place in the order of battle, use within reason. The 9mm carbines never really made a dent here, the Ruger PC Carbine has sure filled a lot of spots since it came out though. I just can't see why some are idolizing it though here. They want as much as $2000CDN for one now. I WOULD have had one in caliber .40 if they'd come to Canada.
