    German Bayo I.D.

I have a german Bayonet marked Waffenfabrik Mauser a.g. Oberndorf a. n. on one side and on the top of the blade is marked with a crown and a W with an 18 below it. below that is some kind of marking i can't make out. the blade is 9 1/2" long and has an unmarked metal scabbard. Looks ww1 but i believe it has been cut down to that size. any idea on values and any other info would be much appreciated! THanks!!

Thought i asked a question about a bayonet I.D. I am NOT asking anyone to buy it!! just wanted info, I thought this was the place to come for answers, not Smartass responses!! is this in the wrong catagory? seems edged weapons would be the place to ask this question.

You have a Turkishicon shortened Mauser-made Germanicon Sg98/05. In it's current condition it may be worth between $15 and $35.

To be fair Rick35, even a simpleton like me thought your question was a bit ambiguous when I read it. It could have covered dozens of cut down bayonets. Everyone on this forum is truly willing to help but only if the question is clear and concise. And always remember the old saying that one simple picture is worth a thousand words.

It's not a case of smartasses and the 15 foot long Chevvy comparison was just another way of asking the same question.

  9. Thank You to Peter Laidler For This Useful Post:

the other problem is that we get a steady stream of people coming on here here with what is it worth questions, that are gradndads and its for info only, that appear next day on EBAY using our input, but never see any offers on here to buy it first. Many of these are common items - like the one here- that have no real value and could be searched on google or EBAY. I did a quick check and got one sold for $52 - buyer obviously has no idea - and all the info you could want. On a bad day many of us may answer the same way. My usual is that it is worth about 1c that is all you'd get for scrap, all other "value" is what we place on it

I Do Appologize to everyone on this forum for my response, chalk it up to a bad day at work, I normaly would post a picture for a thread like this but i was at work and someone brought this to me wanting me to buy it for $50 bucks, i don't have a camera at work so i could'nt post pics. I was in a hurry because i was at work and that's the reason for the rather lame description i gave i guess. I tried the search funtion but came up with hundreds of threads and didn't have time to search them all, i posted here hoping for a quick response because i know this is the place for the experts such as yourselves, and thanks to your expertise i didn't wind up with a bayonet that was not right for me. Thanks again for those who responded, again i am sorry and it won't happen again.
