Technically these are a July purchase but as I didn't recieve them intil this past week I'm posting them here. I finally received my No4 mk1* Long Branch rifles from BLD and they're worth every moment of the red tape wait. The first is a 1943 with a shiny and sharp five groove barrel (yes the bbl is stamped'43). It has a Long butt, grooved handguards, and oddly enough it has a 1941 forearm with the cut-out for the magazine cutoff and also a '41 button style cocking piece. The rifle is all matching and came still thick in cosmo. The second rifle is a 1950 C No4 Long Branch with a late serial number of 95L78XX putting it within the lat 2500 known rifles produced at the LB factory. Again all matching and thick in cosmolineicon. (pics are before cleaning)

A close up of the '43

And although I'm still cleaning the crud from my beauties, I couldn't resist a gun show. Dragging myself away from cleaning the '43 made it a lot easier to walk through the gun show and not be interested in most of the fare offered when there is nicer stuff in the locker waiting for some attention that has only been in one's possession for a few days. But this Ross rifle somehow followed me home largely due to the price being an offer I couldn't refuse. Bore is OK and it still has it's hood on the front sight. If I could find a bayonet/stacking swivel band I could bring it back with a bit of wood working. Anyone know who might have one?

I believe your Ross has had its barrel shortened. It should be 30 1/2".
There has been discussion about shortened Rosses being issued to POW camp guards, the Rangers, but a sproter job is more likely. There was a quanity of Rosses professionally shortened in the UKicon years ago. The muzzles were turned so the front sight base could be refitted. If your rifle has standard Birmingham proofs, that would be a giveaway.

Thanks Tiriaq you're indeed correct. Standard BM proof marks and a 24" bbl. I guess when you just step into something without really doing the research that's what happens. Oh well it's one way to learn and at least I didn't spend much.

Unfortunately mismatched but I have yet to come across a MLM Mk I* that was all matching. It has been into the shop 6 times per the receiver markings, the last time was in 1907 and then she was issued in 1908 to the Liverpool Volunteers.

My "steal" of the auction. Six Scout Regt. scopes. Two are missing straps if anyone has a source for original or repro's. Four of the scopes are B.C. Ltd Co (s/n 8291, 17400, 2896, 16380), one is HBM Co. (s/n 5291) and one is HCR & Son Ltd (s/n 20336).

I also have B.C. Ltd Co. s/n 14026 is some one is looking for it.

I am looking for s/n 16187 for my L42 if anyone has it. My L42 chest has the rifle, scope and sight s/n written on the lid, thus I know the spotting scope that was issued with my L42.

This is my second rifle. Just bought it today in London. Took a bit of time to get some of the grease off.
