Will things get as bad here as they are in Canada?

Montreal cop cuffs, busts and fines student $450 for not holding escalator rail in subway
Posted by Cory Doctorow, May 17, 2009

A Montreal/Laval cop cuffed and dragged a university student away, throwing her in a holding cell and writing her a ticket for CDN$420 ...for failing to hold the handrail while she dug in her bag for her subway fare.

Bela Kosoian, a 38-year-old mother of two, says when she didn't hold the handrail Wednesday she was cuffed, dragged into a small holding cell and fined.

"It was horrible, disgusting behaviour [by police]," said Ms. Kosoian, a 38-year-old student of international law. "I did nothing wrong. They should go find the guys who stole my tires off the balcony."

Ms. Kosoian, who studies at the Université du Québec à Montreal, was riding an escalator down to catch a 5:30 p.m. subway from the suburb of Laval to an evening class downtown when she started rifling through her backpack looking for a fare.

Ms. Kosoian, who grew up in Georgia when it was still part of the Sovieticon Union, says she didn't catch the officer's instruction to hold the rail when he first approached.

When he told her again to hang on, she says she replied, "I don't have three hands." Besides, she had been sick and feared catching a new bug.

Maybe the cop has nothing better to do since obviously there's no violent crime up north since they've banned handguns. No offence to my Canadianicon bretheren, we have wacko authority figures here also.
So, are they required to have tires mounted on their balconies or did she have her car parked up there? Maybe she didn't know about parking in the parking lot, eh!

That is bad but I'll bet that there is more to this story.

    Gee, do you suppose?

    Sounds outrageous, though.

Why would you say that handguns are banned in Canadaicon? Our laws are much more dumb *** than yours but don't be giving them any ideas.

As for the story, who knows? I think this woman in line for a very fat settlement. But it did happen in Quebec and the eastern part of our country is much stranger than the west.

"...since they've banned handguns..." Handguns are not banned.
"...Our laws are much more dumb *** than..." And not as stupid as some State's laws.

My apologies if handguns aren't banned in Canadaicon, I thought they were. And yes, certain states have very restrictive gun laws (most of them back east except for PRK).
Western side of Canada is more understanding of gun owners as long as you are away from certain cities.
1985 I was being transferred to Alaska from Ft. Lewis, WA with my wife and child. I crossed the border at Blaine, WA. Canadian border officer (female) asked me if I had any handguns?
    No.
    Any long guns?
    Yes.
    How many and what kind?
    12GA shotgun, Bolt action 30.06 and a .22 semi-auto.
    Unload your car!
    Here? In the parking lot?
Yes and tell your wife and child to stand on the sidewalk in full view.
Fortunately, a male officer relieved her before I had half my car unloaded. He looked at my shotgun and said "Nice Mossberg, you can load back up, sir and enjoy your trip to Alaska."
I think that female officer would have stripped searched me if she had half a chance.
By contrast, when I returned to the Lower 48 in 1989, the border officer asked if I had any handguns?
No, but I do have some long guns.
Ok, sir, please don't take them out while you are in Canada and have a safe journey.

    Depends on where you are!
