MY Oehler 35 quit working.....
Imagine my consternation when my Oehler-35 chronograph -- sine qua non of the chrono world and no longer in production -- quit working weekend-before-last. It would give some erratic readings and then quit altogether.
It was still daylight, but later in the afternoon/evening so I figured luck of the draw (even tho' the Oehler is normally great in dim light), and I excused it as "only" having .357 caliber projectiles to work with. So I exchanged batteries, checked all the conections, made sure non of the lines were kinked at the sensors, etc, etc,.
One reading... then nada.
* Rats.
.
.
So last weekend I took it out again and set it up this time with with my .45x120 Sharps.
Nada, Nunca, Nyet, Nothing....
** Double rats.
Back to the batteries, connections, dip switches, line inputs... check Sensor#1, Sensor#2, ...Sensor#3....
Sensor#3 looks a little "hazy" so I go get some paper towel/folded up on the end of a screwdriver to patch through the sensor slot from left to right.
Out comes a huge funnel-spider web, ...along with one very pi$$ed off spider.... He'd evidently taken up residencetwo weeks ago and (apparently) didn't have a problem with repeated sonic booms originating 4 inches over his head.
I've now added a new checklist item to by Chrono set-up.

I used a cheap plastic gun case and cut the foam pads inside to allow me to have the mounted start/stop photo cells and the printer/unit all neatly in one box. Keep them there unless using. That stops any spider and dirt problems from being a problem.

Ain't it nice when a plan comes together!
