So a U.S. Marine cannot put U.S. Marine decals on his car; what's the big deal?

He could offer them a deal: They volunteer for a year in combat in Afghanistan, and then he'll comply with their stupid rules.

    Louis of PA

    from exurbanleague.com:

Today's "Outrage of the Day" comes from Dallas:
Frank Larison is a disabled veteran with more than 14 years of service, including more than a year of combat duty in Vietnam.
The 58-year-old former Marine now finds himself under attack by his Dallas homeowners association for displaying seven decals on his vehicle supporting the Marine Corps.

"To me, it's being patriotic, and it shows that I served," the veteran told FOX 4.
The board says the decals are advertisements that violate HOA rules, and must be covered or removed.

Otherwise, the homeowners association for The Woodlands II on The Creek —- where Larimore has lived for eight years —- says in a letter it will tow the car at Larimore's expense. The board also threatens to fine him $50 for any future incident.

    Car stickers are Advertising??
HO's are getting out of control with their rules and enforcement.

Remember the flag they wanted taken down?
No Cars parked in your driveway?
The list of trivia goes on.

How about a picture of the car and decals.

Video showing his car with decals

The TV reporter was on the ball; he went around the parking lot there and shot other cars with stuff like Obama stickers, yellow ribbons and other things.

He tried to interview the head of the home owners' association but found he was "unavailable for comment".

I wonder if an "FTA" decal would be unacceptable too?

I, too, smell a lawsuit -- and if he needs donations to pay his lawyer, I'll kick in my share.

    Hey, guys,

gated communities, condos, coop apratments, etc.? Every last one of them has a little board with the power to make life miserable for people it doesn't like. The nastiest type of bully is a creep who has been given a little bit of authority and no oversight. You're asking for it if you put yourself in their power.

If anyone touches an Obama sticker, the FBI arrests him for high treason against the Dear Leader and True Messiah and hauls him off to Gitmo.

HOA's Can Be a Good Thing or a Bad Thing

I lived in a development in which my home was the first one constructed. As other basements were being excavated, I stockpiled large boulders and rocks from which I made a natural free-standing rock retaining wall around the side periphery of my property not unlike those you see in PA civil war sites but on a larger scale (3' high X 3' wide).

A HOA was formed after the rest of the development completed housing construction. The HOA was told it had authority to control what went on in the development from that point forward.

We were limited as to what kind of fencing we could put up, what type of sheds could be constructed, what kind of decks could be added on, etc. etc. etc.

Most of the homeowners loved my rock wall. But when the official HOA had their first meeting, the first topic to be discussed was my rock wall. Fortunately, someone on the board said: "we can only act on things from the date of our HOA inception onward." My rock wall was constructed before the HOA inception. I was safe.

My HOA fee was $120 a year; the HOA fee at a site I want to buy into is $3000 a year. At the present time, I have a home on 2.5 acres of wooded pastureland without any HOA fees and love it.

HOAs can be good but my opinion of them based on my experiences with them is less than satisfactory.

I empathize with the marine vet.

Some of those Homeowners Associations are completely tyrannical. After "The Board" sets the standards they have to find something each year to make them feel important.

One association in a Chicago suburb dictates what color the house must be, the types of flowers allowed and how many of each type are allowed to be planted. The list of "rules' is long and then there's a set of "preferences" they hand to individual homeowners. These include things like the color of the garden hose, the type of lawn sprinkler...right down to the types of window treatments they would like to see.

I couldn't believe the list of repairs they handed her. Somebody had to literally go on to her property and touch things up close to spot some of the trivial items on there. She was given 30 days to comply or be fined.

Her neighbor was ordered to remove a shrub that he had gotten permission to plant only two years earlier!

The word from the board has always been, "If you don't like our rules, then you have the right to move away".
