    Hoppe's Elite

Has any one tried the new Hoppe's ELITE bore cleaner? It's supposed to be better at removing the copper than regular ol' Hoppe's #9 but at a price of just under a double-sawbuck I thought I'd hold off until I heard if it was worth it.

I have used it on my M1icon after firing Greek HXP ammo, which is pretty dirty. In my opinion, it cleaned out the extensive black surplus carbon gunk faster than the other cleaners I have used. I do not think it any better than the others on copper, but I did not let it soak in the bore for a long time to test it either. I recommend that you at least try some and see what you think.

I got a 1942 era Colt m1911a1 a few months back, I haven't shot it but I've cleaned it many times over. The barrel is "frosted". Translated- pitted; I used hoppes no.9 on the barrel several times, I eventually stopped getting the blue color on the cleaning patches. But I tried some of the elite stuff afterward, I got a ton more copper (blue color) using that stuff. It does work better.

I just now looked at Hoppe's MSDS. Elite is a copper remover. It is not flammable, therefore I will guess it is water based. Windex with a touch of ammonia is a good copper remover and much cheaper. But be careful with either choice as they can not stand long in a bore.
