Big Duke and Tankie.......... Fitting the .22"/7.62mm interface block into a new magazine is easier said than done. I have done it on saveral/many occasions when they were the norm. The height of the feed lips is very critical for obvious reasons. Just a tad too high and the rounds thud into the top edge of the chamber. Too low and they won't be picked up. A little bit low and some will feed but on others, the breech block slides over the top round. Dave Lines who used to do them had a little jig that clipped over the front mag lug and sat down onto the rear end.

Another 'problem' was that the rivet holes in the interface block are hidden when it's in the new magazine so you have to rely on accurately copying the OLD magazine or laying the interface block onto the new magazine and drilling through. Anyway, it's a good job that magazines were plentiful as I've ruined a few!

I seem to recall that towards the end of the sub cal kits, you couldn't get replacement magazines or the rivets to fit the inserts into a new magazine. We used brass or nickel tube and spread the ends out

As I said, if I was doing them now I'd accurately position the inner mag and partially fill the big mag with an epoxy. Job done

Pete, Just a thought, but. If a new mag were stripped out, inserted into the rifle. (Rifle has Barrel Insert & working parts from .22" subcal kit fitted internaly) Rifle upturned & clamped in this plane. Mag adaptor dropped in with it's internal pistol mag fitted & secured. DROP the whole adaptor ASSEMBLY Down inside the main mag & Clamp securely. Remove complete mag from rifle & CAREFULLY Unclamp externaly & drop down internal adaptor assembly COMPLETE, by TEN THOUSANDS of an inch. Reclamp SECURELY, & drill Straight through, The TWO transverse cross pin retainer holes. Unclamp & fit the two cross pins, insert mag assembly into rifle & check feed with some inert/dummy rounds.

The if all appears correct, test fire a whole mag through the weapon to prove functioning.
There is a variable obviously from rifle to rifle, with also a combination of wear to differing parts Etc. So in THEORY, the above method SHOULD work for each INDIVIDUAL Rifle from the word go?

    Your thoughts please Peter?

Yep, that'd work but ideally, you'd like to have full interchangeability. I think that the person who is manufacturing the kits will have it all sorted. Progress seems a bit slow at the moment I fear!

Pete, Agreed. At this moment in time as we are dealing with People who will get one of these kits for thier own Rifle. It is unlikely that once obtained/self manufactured. They will part with the sub cal kit. To that end, I would say that interchangability shouldnt prove too much of a problem.
& also bearing in mind, in THEORY....Due to the reasonable tolerances in manufacture of the original outfit. So that they also were in THEORY, fully interchangable. It shouldnt prove too much of a problem with the Method I stated previously.

The difficult part is.......The history of a LOT of the recievers Etc used in the build of the hand cockers is not fully known I would venture. To that end, the wear factors will be wildy varying to any of these componanats.
I am aware of where & how these Rifles are comming from in Germanyicon (Most of them) But they are now also being assembled & manufactured just up the road from me by a Good Friend of Mine who is a Sec.5 RFD.

They are being assembled & modified from Ex service componants except for the Barrel, which is New Manufacture without a gas port drilling in it. I raised the question of Sec.5 Componats being utilised. But they have an agreed Policy with the Home Office which gets around this sticky area. Legal & totaly Legit.

They are in the process of building 20 up at the moment (Slowly, as it is NOT a priority) & have apparantly sold quite few already, some to dealers here in the UKicon. The demand is also VERY high it would seem!
Once set up correctly, I am told they 'Print' very well at the Target end at 300 Meters!.........

It seems no one wants a sub calibre kit, had no interest as yet from anyone, regarding my offer of a future import, dont know of anyone else importing them, as Brian said I was the first one to go through him.

I guess its the fact is not many want to stick a .22 barrel down there new made .308 barrel ? As far as I know the mags come with the kit only, if you want an extra mag then its a case of sending a standard mag for conversion.

If its the price I quoted in the other thread then please email me and I will break it down to show were the figure comes from, if anyone can do it cheaper then let me know.

I looked yesterday and it's reserved. Not cheap, but cheap for rocking horse horse shi.........., er....... manure! Especially since you can now own a straight-pull L1A1. And it's even cheaper when you consider that it enables you to keep your L1A1 even if you only have access to a .22" range or club. Even cheaper when you think that it might even pay for itself in ammo costs in the long run!
