scrap heap find

a quetion for you learned gentlemen. while digging through a pile of metal in my friends workshop yesterday i found a trapdoor reciever with what appears to be a carbine barrel loosely threaded in. it's marked model 1884 and the serial number is either 431693 or 481698. do any of these numbers fall in the range of known carbines? thanks for looking.

I think the 1st would be 1888, and the second 1889. They made 5000 carbines in 1888 and 5000 in 1889 so im sure ether # would fall in there.

thank you sir for the reply. after soaking it all day in oil i got the action to open. the barrel (removed from the receiver) measures 22 inch. the hammer cocks and the trigger works.

true but not much else, the stock is broken off under the receiver and the buttstock has been carved up. i'm going to try and post a picture
