    Krieger Heavy Match

Anybody bought a Krieger Heavy Match barrel in 30-06 for a Garand recently? I've always wanted a NM M1icon in 30-06 and have decided to have one built. I've always considered the Krieger the definitive barrel but I do know they had some issues a couple of years ago when a few of the Krieger workers went to Bartlien and was wondering if Krieger's quality was back up to snuff.

    Thanks!!

If Krieger was having ANY quality problems....it was one hell of a deep dark secret since neither me nor anyone I know heard about it, and there wasn't any "buzz" about it around Camp Perry in the last 5 years. Bad news travels far and fast (remember when Hart and Rock used to be "names"?)!

If I were looking for a high end for an M1icon, I'd discuss it with Roland Beaver. He works with a couple such manuf's.

Well then, that answers my question.

Had Warner build me a Palma rifle a while back with a Krieger and it took 27 rounds to break in the barrel. Another LR shooter told me the Bartlien story and I just figured I'd ask before I spent $340.

Zero argument about Roland Beaver's ability or accomplishments but I've decided to go with Carl Liesinger.

    Thanks!

No, thats Krieger's price for a heavy match stainless Garand barrel.

    M1Garand & M1A/M14

Thats pretty much par for the course, barrels for bolt guns are about the same price (actually a little less for a bolt gun, makes sense as there's less machining and no worrysome timing WRT the gas port to worry about).

Typical out the door price for a bolt gun barrel and installation is about $550.

My LRB NM M1A has a Hart heavy match, you DO NOT want to know what that cost me.

OK, That's about what I thought it would cost. I once owned an Obermeyer .30 'blank'. The cost of having it finished and installed were a 'bit' beyond me!

I once horse traded into a LR rifle with a very heavy Hart barrel. As my LR schemes didn't pan out, I horse traded it off. I well remember how "good" the bore looked, even to my untrained eye.
