Great Forum here
I've been a lurker for quite a while but joined because I respect this place!
Been shooting since the dark days of the Carter Administration!
My memory of the first time my dad took me out to shoot we had to stop at K-Mart to get a bos of 22lr ammo I remember dad having to show his drivers license for a log entry in a book at the sporting goods counter. I thought immediately "What the heck business is it of theirs who buys a small box of ammo?
I guess I grew up like Alex P Keaton, with a liberal mother! I got in arguments with her when I was 10 yrs old. I asked her why she always drove a chrysler? She replied "It was good enough for President Kennedy". All I could think of was why didnt she understand that lowest bidder means cheapest built product!

After wanting a M1 Garand since I was a kid I finally bought one last year. As far as service rifles I own a never issued M1938 Mosin and an AR-15 and I plan to purchase a FAL later this month. I plan to also add a K98 Mauser and a Lee Enfield to round out the collection. My M1 is a Springfield Armory in the 5,300,000 range. I am reparkerizing it and have installed a Dean's stock because the original stock was cracked. I am also restoring my buddies M1 at the same time, his is a 2,000,000 range SA with a bald barrel that I plan to replace, restock and reparkerize. My goal is to make an accurate JCG match rifle that looks like it just came out of the factory with the best availble US GI parts I can find regardless of matching correct part #'s. I plan to buy a US GI reciever and build a 7.62 Nato M1 from parts. I have other long guns and handguns, but I like service rifles. I am fairly knowlegeable about firearms and have worked on quite a few firearms and am a avid reloader.
I look forward to learning all I can from this board and listen to intersting people.

Hi
I was asked to post something about myself so her goes. I got started with guns through my dad, he was into military collecting, gunsmithing & hunting. I grew up reading his old gunsmithing books and looking at the Mauser he had sporterized. He also taught me not to screw up a good gun, so anything I do can be put back to original condition with the parts saved. Now if someone else has already butchered the gun (cut the barrel, drilled & tapped holes and such) then I have fun turning them into sporting rifles. I like the Enfields the best for this as I used to be able to pick them up dirt cheap (getting harder to do these days).

New here with a new, old Garand. A mismasch of parts but they all look sound and most are SA. The saftey is HRA. I am reading everything to become minimally conversant on the M1. Have loaded for just about everything else over the past 45 years but somehow never got to the 30-06??? My present aim is military silouette, since I have been doing black powder cartridge in that arena for a while. Sure need to read some more to get the M1 down and need to get to the range. I am waiting for dies, clips and brass.

Hello from a new member
Hello all
I have a long term interest in things of a military nature but only recently gave in to the urge to start collecting seriously. I now have my first SMLE (1918 LSA MkIII*) along with various bits and pieces and hope to expand this as expenses allow. Hopefully, a No.4 will be next although a Bren is a possibility......sigh. Have already found out all sorts of useful info from the site and look forwards to many more hours trawling.
