A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. A new member

    Hello All,

First an admission: I never intended to get into military firearms. There I said it!

Then my step daughter came on hard times and needed some money so I bought her Winchester made model 1917. The story is that her grandfather bought it "new" in 1940 for $17.00 mail order. The rifle is really very nice but it has so many numbers and markings in so many places that I wonder if I'll ever figure out what it's real history is. The serial number is 105277, the barrel top behind the front sight is stamped with a large "W", a flaming bomb and "2-17", it has an OD canvas rifle sleeve, there's a bunch of cleaning stuff in the butt stock behind the trap door and it sports a vintage leather strap. It's parkerized. I'm wondering if it's original, re-manufactured or what. All those darn markings are pretty confusing. I think I read somewhere that when made all these rifles had a polished blued finish. Is that true?

Any preliminary ideas from the experts?

    Thanks in advance, Dave

Hi Guys: I'm new to Joustericon, but have been collecting and rebuilding M1Gs for several years now. I live in South Texas and the hunters love them for hogs, dear, and other medium game, especially in 308. I've been hanging out on the 1919 forums for awhile, but decided to go ahead and register on this one.

    Hey Guys,

Been collecting military surplus rifles for a long time now. Decided to quit lurking and join. In fact I'm in the process of restoring a Remington 1903A3 right now. Glad to be here.

    Mike
