Giday Guys, first post here. I had my first Martini cadet in 22 Hornet back in 1980 -81 but was offered enough that it slipped away. Just a few weeks ago I bought a Martini Enfield on a local auction sight, an 1879 Mklll that was converted in 1896. I thought it might be a simple restoration but when it arrived it had a 30-30 barrel, a cut down fore stock, missing nosecap, stock disc and butt plate. To top it off the butt had been cut about a 1/2 in short.
This is the rifle as it arrived

I have managed to get most of the missing parts except for the nose cap, and as the barrel had to be replaced I used a new no 4 Lee Enfield barrel that I was given. It is not going to be an original rifle so I had the barrel cut to artillery carbine length as the action has NZ issue marks and might have seen service during the second Boer campaign.
A full re-stock is in order and have bought a dark plain blank to work with.

Hi,
I am a new member who has had a sporterized Ross MKIII for about 50 plus years. I don't shoot it much because it's a real mule to fire. For example, when fired it knocks my hat off and sets my glasses askew!!!
Once I get used to this site I will post a couple of photos of the "Beast".
By the way, this rifle was customized for my Dad by his older brother!

Hello to everyone. I'm a life long amature student of the gun, with a minor in militaria. My military surplus arms are limited to a much abused '98 Mauser and a 1954 Russian SKS (unabused at all), but that don't limit the interest. Glad to be aboard.

First post...new guy from Baton Rouge, La. I'm a child of the 60's, when the local sporting goods store had tables covered with real military surplus... rifles, baynets, canteens, tents, field gear clothes all kinds of WWII surplus. Stuff that had actually seen combat. Oh those were such glorious times. My high school friends and I had part time jobs so we were able to purchase some of those. We enjoyed shooting and the guns were "affordable" for our limited incomes. I bought and still have a 1903-A3 Springfield. 7.5 Swiss , 1911 Schmidt-Ruben carbine. 303 British Enfield, BSA No4 MkI. And a Model 95 Spanish Mauser , 7X57.
Two have been sporterized, but could be returned to military configuration and two are "as issued". I never bought a 98 Mauser...just didn't like them. My favorite is the 303 Enfield.
Started reloading then because that was a way to shoot more for the money we had.

New member from central Florida... New to Milsurps, not new to guns... Grew up in Texas... Am older than dirt, but still shoot whenever I get a chance... Have SKS, Remington .243, Stevens 66 bolt-action .22, 12 ga and 20 ga Mossberg pumps, .38 and .22 revolvers...

I am a 59 year old South African who started my military conscription with a 303. During my life span I have had up to 3 of these caliber rifles in my possession at one time. The P14 I converted to 7x64 and the Mk 1 I sold to a local collector. The other one I still have as it was bought in sporterised format and I still use it to hunt with. I have however had a barrel replacement.

I work as a land surveyor and my only hobby is guns and reloading. I am an active member of a hunting association and hunt regularly - both fur and feather.

I will be honest and mention that a metal object found on a farm in SA is my main reason for registering on this forum. We would like to clear the mystery surrounding this object and I thought that seeing it contains a 303 case in it that some of you might be of help.
