Good evening people;
First time here and am trying to answer a question which came up by another about Hercules RL-11 that he has, in regards to the safety of using it now in a Garand.
I still have 3-1# tins of RL-11 which I was using in the 60's in my .35 Whelen, Model 760 rem that "Boots Obermeyer" rebarreled for me back then. He lives 16 miles from me here in Wisconsin.
Anyway...I intend to use these 3 cans in my 6PPC soon, without hesitation. I was loading 56 gr. of RL-11 behing 200 gr. Speers. I do think I was pushing it, given the lockup features of the 760 Rem at that time. Perhaps foolish as well.Don't think I'd do that again.
I opened one of my cans and examined the powder. It is just as the day I bought it back then, so yes, I will use it . I'm sure I could get a pretty penny for it, but won't go there. I'll still have the cans no matter what.
As far as using it in the garand goes, I would not hesitate starting at about 55 gr.
I am now 80, retired from construction, put 3 yrs, in the USMC in early 50's, one in korea with the 81mm Mortars, have quit hunting and ready to sell my hunting rifles. I do the garden now and feed the birds. Thats the way life is.
I make cartridge boxes now in my shop. You can have a look at http://www.benchrest.com/maisto
Thanks for listening,
Joe Maisto

1903 Originality
Recently purchased a 1903 Springfield serial number 1289031 which designates manufacture 1928. The barrel is a SA barrel dated 1-29. Could this be the original barrel for this receiver? Thanks.

Hello all, I'm a newbie to firearms and recently purchased a Russian SKS and while digging around the I-net looking for historical info and numbers of this particular piece, and I landed here. Milsurps has been instrumental in providing me interesting historical info and excellent pointers and tips on care/maintenance, what to look for id purposes and things of note particularily with respect to the slam firing issue. Thanks for that guys
