    New guy intro

    All,
I'm a new member from the USAicon and am an active collector of military surplus rifles. I have casually browsed this site in the past and decided to become an active member. I look forward to learning from the other members and making my own type of contribution here.

    Greetings and Hail

    Greetings,

I'm new here and new to collecting in general. I spent the last decade studying WW2 history, especially the small arms, tactics, and AFVs of each major power. I started collecting C&R and antique firearms about a year ago. I have a strong interest in the history of firearms as well as taking them to the range. I've never been hunting before.

I went to a range for the first time in 25 years a few months ago. Hadn't been to one or shot a gun since I was 18. And that was just .22 caliber stuff. So you can probably imagine my excitement after cracking off a few shots on a Mosin for the first time.

I started off with my grandfather's Walther P-38 which was handed down to me. It's a pretty banged up war trophy from over 70 years ago, but it still shoots amazingly accurate, and is super easy to dissemble and clean. I guess that created the itch.

Got my C&R license a while back and I've been buying 3-4 guns a month, primarily bolt-action rifles. My goal is to have at least three from every major power in WW2 and WW1. I also like classic revolvers as well (1880-1930), and tend to avoid modern sidearms, especially if they are s/a. So far I've stayed in the under-500 price range, and I've ended up with 3x nice Carcanos (underrated, IMO), two Mosins, a Vetterli-Vitale, and a beautiful Swedishicon Mauser. Also picked up a sweet Nagant revolver and some compact Berettas. It typically buy on gunbroker, as they seem to have a nice selection at competitive prices; plus it helps me sharpen my auction skills.

I'll be asking lots of questions on certain topics, as I like to learn and absorb as much as possible. If you can give me any constructive feedback, I always appreciate it.

I finished a nice four-paragraph introduction about myself but apparently it didn't post.

So to make it short, I've been collecting for less than one year. Before actually buying guns I was (am) a student of military history, especially the history of firearms. Before that I was a wargamer, so I guess you can say the disease has progressed.

I'm primarily interested in C&R bolt action rifles and revolvers. My goal is to eventually have three rifles and one sidearm from each of the major powers in WW1/WW2.

I'll be asking lots of questions, as my brain is like a sponge and wants to absorb everything. I'm a shooter with a strong historical interest in the arms I collect. I typically don't buy something if I can't take it to the range. Never been hunting, but would like to someday. Reloading my own cartridges is something I plan on affording the luxury of getting into eventually: if I can ever stop buying so many guns.

    Greetings

    New member from Norway

Hello All! First - thanks for adding me as a member!

My name is Kjell Ramstad and I live in Norwayicon. My main interest is in fact collecting cameras - and mainly Nikons. The Nikon F (manufactured between 1959 - 1973) was heavily used in the Vietnam conflict, and I wanted to create a display with a couple of F cameras - one manufactured in 1965 and one in 1969. My F cameras have never been near Vietnam (unfortunately) - but the manufacturing period is "correct". Both are very heavily used / beaten up with a nice patina. So are the lenses which are from the same period.

After a while I felt that something was missing, so I acquired an M1icon Vietnam helmet and an AN/PRR-9 receiver - just to add some "decoration" to the display. Then a compass was purchased + some other items from the Vietnam War period. Later a couple of pilot helmets from the "correct" period were acquired.

Well, I have had this collecting "disease" for a long time when it comes to camera equipment - and now the interest for US military items (approx 1965- 1975) has popped up as well. Phew...
