I visited Marine Corps Headquarters yesterday (PHOTOS)

Since last year, they still haven't figured out how to install flooring. Army engineers could do the job for them.

Nice display of enlisted, non-com and officer ranks. Can you ID the patches?

I know what those three "Baaadges" are in the center. Have the one on the left compliments of The Corps in 1962.

MARDIV (1st thru 6th), and MAW (1st thru 4th) patches on the sides. Looks like WWII theater and victory medals up top, and WWI/Korea era rank insignia in addition to the shooting badges.

As for flooring...all they need is 1 Cpl, a small assortment of snuffies, an Army or Air Force outfit nearby to get parts and tools from...and they're in business.

And an Army engineer to show them which end of the hammer to hold.

Gee, Louis, the Marines have really come down in the world if that is their HQ. Last time I was at USMC HQ in Arlington, they had a real building with walls and floors (and some very good-looking BAMS). They even had a new flag.

Jim - You refer to the former Marine Headquarters.

Jim, you are clearly not current on the recent budget cuts handed down from across the Potomac.

Paragraph one mandates that most Marine Corps buildings be turned over to the underprivileged.

Further down it mentions that your Arlington facility will now serve as the new Acorn World Headquarters.

Paragraph three specifies that no new construction for the Corps will exceed one-story in height nor include flooring.

Paragraph four calls for adoption of cap & ball weapons and cutlasses as are available from various museums or that may be seized from collectors. The current inventory of cartridge weapons will be provided to third world countries in need.

Percussion caps will only be issued upon specific order of the president or his designated representative, and weapons may only be fired when a team composed of government & ACLU lawyers, EPA and UN officials is present and in agreement.

Weapons that produce excessive smoke will result in a Letter of Reprimand from Al Gore. You know what that would do to a Marine's career.

And of course, PETA will monitor all Corps activities that could possibly cause anxiety to animals.

On the bright side, I think revival of the leather collars will look pretty sharp. I'm not so sure about the headgear, but generally, the traditional style uniforms will look great as Marines man the rigging in the wind powered, fuel efficient, wooden hulled ships that are scheduled to replace those metal hull oil guzzlers the Navy uses.

Subject: The Navy Chief and Marine Gunny

An old Navy Chief and an old Marine Gunny were sitting at the Legion arguing about who had the tougher career.

"I did 30 years in the Corps," the Marine declared proudly, "and fought in three of my country's wars. Fresh out of boot camp, I hit the beach at Okinawa, clawed my way up the blood-soaked sand, and eventually took out an entire enemy machine gun nest with a single grenade.

As a sergeant, I fought in Korea alongside General MacArthur. We pushed the enemy inch by bloody inch all the way up to the Chinese border, always under a barrage of artillery and small arms fire.

Finally, as a gunny sergeant, I did three consecutive combat tours in Vietnam. We humped through the mud and elephant grass for 14 hours a day, plagued by rain and mosquitoes, ducking under sniper fire by day and mortar fire all night. In a firefight, we'd fire until our arms ached and our guns were empty; then we charge the enemy with bayonets."

"Ah! You lucky bast*rd," said the Chief with envy, "all shore duty, huh?"
