    Value of K98 DOT 1944, and 1899 '96 swede

    Hey Guys:

Looking for some help from the experts!!!

I would like to know the value of two rifles I own.

The first is a 99% DOT K98icon German mauser in 8mm (1944). The rifle is a numbers matching gun, as far as I can tell the numbers have not been forced matched. The serial numbers are on everything including the stock, and the rifle has not been fired, it has only been cylced a couple of times. There are no peen marks and a few minor "safe" kisses!!

The second is a 1899 k96 Swedishicon Mauser numbers matching and it has the dial rear "target" sight, the tag states that it has a number 1 barrel and as far as I know it has never been fired also??!!! Any idea what rear sight is called and why is it "different" than the swede I have that I mounted a scope to that had the "millitary" style battle rear sight???

Any info will be much apreciated!!

    Thanks
    Paul

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Question

Lets first see what you have -
Is the rifle ser nr - matching the rec - on the left side of the stock? Is there a crude X on the rec or bbl behind the rear sight? Are there any pencil etched ser nrs anywhere on the rifle? Is there an importers mark on the bbl between the front sight and the bayo lug?

The dot 44 is one of the most common markings found on WW 2 98ks.
IF the dot 44 is EXC and all original and matching Germanicon, it is in the $12 - 1500 range.
