Where are SA inc 1911's made?

I see their XD pistols are made in Croatia,where are the current production 1911's made? They say SA INC USA on them but I thought I read somewhere that they are also foreign made. Anyone know? It does'nt say on their website. My kid is looking at one,his first pistol purchase.

I believe the rough frames are made in Brazil and finished Stateside. Mostly guessing though.

AFAIK, they are still made in Brazil. The newer Taurus PT1911's are made there also. Probably on the same machinery. We haven't handled the SA 1911's recently, but do carry the Taurus's. I have been somewhat impressed with the quality and features of the Taurus PT1911 since we have had them in stock.

To relate that; I was much impressed with the same quality and features of the Kimber M1911 when they first were introduced. (years ago). Look at the price of a Kimber now.

There are no inherent problems with any of them with the following exception.
The Taurus, while it has sights made by Heine, a well known brand, Taurus cuts the dovetails a tad too big for other sights to fit tightly. Don't expect to replace them with something different without a lot of effort or expense.

Thanks guys for the info. I stopped by the local dealer this evening and they had a few SA inc pistols and indeed they say made in Brazil on them. The sales guy also said he thought they are made by the same company that makes the Taurus 1911's. This dealer normally has been able to keep a decent supply of all brands but this past week or two it seems they got cleaned out pretty good. Large selection of Glocks but pretty thin pickens on Kimbers,Colts,S&W,Ruger and Sig.
I have 2 Kimbers myself,a compact .45 and a full size 10mm. I'm trying to convince jr. to get a Kimber but it's way more than he can afford. The other one he was looking at is the Para Ordnance GI expert but I don't know what those cost. He found that one online,no locals have any in stock. I think I'll browse Gunbroker for awhile.....

I have both the S.A. XD in .45 and the Taurus PT 1911. The XD doesn't care for cast bullets. Everything else it shoots fine and having 13 rounds of .45 is a big plus. It shoots and handles well. The only problem I have had is the magazines split at the top rear of the feed lips and they didn't want to insert.
S.A. replaced them without question. Price under $600.

The Taurus PT 1911 is just a sweet gun. It shoots and handles well even out to 100 yards. The pistol eats everything I've thrown at it and smiles. For all the extras they added it's unbeatable. The only issue I've had is the ambi safety has come apart a few times. Afew minutes and it's back togeather again. Price I paid under $600. for mine early last year. Worth it even a couple hundred over that.

As far as I know they are still made by Taurus, but I think they are now finished here. For a while in the 1990s, the SA 1911 actually said "Made in Brazil" on them, which I really hated. I dont think the current guns have to say that because a lot of the finish machining is done here. Their standard baseline blued 1911 used to be everywhere, and remains the best 1911 value on the market IMHO....except that they added thos !@$#@$#%!@$*#$# forward finger groves which I absolutely hate.

At local gunshows, I've picked up several 1980s vintage ones whenever I could find them, including a NIB "Hardballed NM" model that was made in the late 1980s / early 1990s when Les Baer was running the Custom Shop up there. Its just as good as anything he makes now. No play in the slide or barrel at all, and rides like its on ball bearings. The best part is, I paid less for it than a new Kimber stock model 1911!.

I second the other posters opinion...Taurus 1911s seem very nice. I bought one of their matte finish stainless single action army clones recently, and the quality is top notch. Cylinder lock up is as tight as a Freedom Arms revolver, and were talking about a $475 gun.
