    Of course it's inhumane

Why is it a problem being inhumane to things that aren't HUMAN? I'm not advocating being cruel, just semantics I suppose.

The winter of 1977/78 I shot/trapped about 120 Red Fox: Pelts then were bringing $60.00 to $85.00. Big 'Coons' brought $45.00.Black Muskrat was up to $6.00 ea. Hard, Cold work but the two kids were right there with me every night!
My fur business got me a brand new '78' GMC pickup truck and one hellva Xmas for the kids!
Fur prices fell off shortly thereafter and now taking them isn't worth the ammo or trapping effort. I never did kill them just for amusement.

Not to take sides, but fox hunting, English style (now banned), doesn't involve guns or traps. When the hounds catch the fox, they tear it to pieces; IMHO, one does not have to be a nutcase PETA type to have a few qualms about that.

    Jim,

This is the crazy part: the fox will bait the dogs, and if she/he starts tolose them will stop and wait for them to catch up. The fox hunters claim the fox enjoys the hunt as much as the humans - and probably more than the dogs.

Well, that's one explanation for fox behavior in the hunt. They can get away if they want, but they don't. Who knows why?

I think it was Sir Winston Churchill who described foxhunting as:

"The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable."

If you want to hunt rabbits, grouse, quail, and/or pheasants, then you've GOT to control the number of foxes....it's just that damn simple! It's called "game management". Around here, bird hunting went in the crapper the same time the price of furs collapsed...nobody trapping foxes and coons, means no more ground-birds!

You want varmints DEAD....why is the method so all-fired important? I'm sure that when a coyote nabs a fox they are FAR more "humane" in dispatching it than a pack of foxhounds!

The fox enjoys the hunt, haha! More likely stops to rest stop when he gets some breathing room. You think the Fox does not know the danger he is in. Nothing but BS to counter the anti hunt crowd. (of which I am NOT part of, altho I will not shoot what I will not eat, except some varmints)
